History
Austin Powers was presumably born in the mid-1940s, based on his apparent age in 1967. He is the son of Nigel Powers, a respected Ministry of Defence agent (played by Michael Caine), and the brother of Dougie Powers, a/k/a Doctor Evil. While attending boarding school, he was awarded the title of "International Man of Mystery"- much to the dismay of his brother, who believed he himself was more deserving. This would play a prominent role in their future relationship, having turned Dr. Evil against Austin.
Following his schooling, Powers joined the Ministry of Defence and, partnered with Mrs. Kensington, faithfully protected Queen and country from Dr. Evil and his diabolical schemes while working under the cover of a fashion photographer. To avoid capture, Dr. Evil cryogenically froze himself in 1967; Powers had himself frozen in turn, to be brought back should the world ever require protection from Dr. Evil again. They were subsequently unfrozen in 1997, and continued thier adversarial relationship while attempting to acclimate to the culture shock of losing 30 years' worth of time.
Powers has been married once, to Vanessa Kensington (daughter of Mrs. Kensington). The marraige ended in Vanessa's combustion, when she was revealed to be a Fembot programmed by Dr. Evil to assasinate Austin.
Character Traits
Austin Powers seems to possess a particularly potent libido, which he refers to as his mojo. Despite this, Austin suffers from a slight inferiority complex, caused primarily by his father's negligence when he was a child. He is fiercely loyal to Britain, prominently displaying the Union Jack on his clothes, underwear, and vehicles. He has a great passion for 1960's culture, preferring to dress in a crushed velvet suit with a lace cravat and Italian boots.
His catch phrases include:
"Yeah, baby!";
"Oh, behave!";
"Grr, baby!";
"Shag-a-delic!";
Filmography
Austin Powers' greatest missions are recounted in the following film trilogy:
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997);
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999);
Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002);
The titles for each of the sequel films were parodies of James Bond films; specifically, The Spy Who Loved Me and Goldfinger.
In Goldmember, the line between Austin Powers as a movie character and a "real person" was blurred with the use of a "film-within-a-film."
The main theme in each film is the 1962 Quincy Jones work, Soul Bossa Nova.
